Kids Fiddle Camp
The third annual NSCE Fiddle Camp is a four-day camp for string musicians early in their learning, looking to explore the rich tradition of fiddle music in a fun, interactive, and creative way. Students will meet for four hours each day to learn, play, and build community together. At the end of the week, players will have an opportunity to perform what they have learned for their families.
This year, we are excited to announce that our camp will have 2 streams:
Stream 1: Musicians who are in their first year of learning to play strings, as well as those interested in picking up a stringed instrument for the first time to see what it's all about!
Stream 2: Students who have been playing strings for 1-3 years, who are interested in meeting new friends who also share a passion for music and fun, as well as learning how to play music as an ensemble!
Ages 7-12
For players with 0-1 years of experience (Stream 1) or 1-3 years of experience (Stream 2)
Players learn the fundamentals of playing the violin, viola, or cello & are given an introduction to the Celtic fiddle tradition
Players traditionally learn to play by ear using call-and-response listening exercises and games
Players discover the importance of musicianship and ensemble through interactive games and activities
Students will participate in group games, sports, walking field trips, arts & crafts, and other activities
Upon completion of the NSCE Fiddle Camp, players will be ready to join the NSCE Intro to Fiddling group or Strings 'N Things classes in September 2024
